Merkur Palace is a building of great historic importance. Originally it was built in 1903 as the first telephone center of Budapest that is a listed building for the time being. Since its construction the building was more or less preserved in good condition. The most representative and eye-catching parts of the original building can be enjoyed today: the staircases of Nagymező and Hajós street wings, the second floor glass wall made of hexagon glass bricks, the room with classic columns and the imperial hall (the former telephone switchboard room).
