BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) is one of the world’s most recognised and stringent green building certification systems. Located in Őrmező, Hungary’s largest transport hub, the 66,000 sqm Budapest ONE received an Outstanding rating in the BREEAM In-Use Asset Performance category with a score exceeding 90%. Assessors highlighted the building’s exceptional accessibility, adaptability and responsible use of environmental resources. CBRE, the world’s larges global commercial real estate services and investment firm, acted as consultant and assessor during the certification process.
Constructed to the highest professional standards, the complex is designed to withstand both extreme weather conditions and the effects of climate change. It features an energy-efficient, intelligent central building management system and a heat recovery ventilation system. Its roof hosts 150 solar panels with a combined capacity of 81.76 kWp. Covering an area the size of two volleyball courts, the system generates around 80,000 kWh of renewable energy annually, cutting the building’s CO₂ equivalent emissions by nearly 18 tonnes each year. The renewable electricity produced on-site is provided to tenants at no additional charge.
“Sustainability and a people-centred approach are at the core of our developments. The Outstanding-level BREEAM In-Use certification of Budapest ONE’s second phase is further proof that we meet the most rigorous international standards while creating a workplace that delivers long-term value for our tenants,” said Gábor Radványi, Chief Architect and Head of Sustainability at Futureal.
Budapest ONE was designed not only to achieve the highest Gold rating from Access4You for accessibility, but also to meet the strict Platinum level of the WELL Building Standard, which evaluates features that positively influence health and well-being. The interior design includes calming colour schemes, a dedicated WELL room, a spacious rooftop garden, secure bicycle storage with showers, and a nearly 500-meter rooftop running track with a rubber surface and panoramic 360-degree views. The building also offers charging stations for electric cars, bicycles and scooters, as well as selective waste collection facilities. A half-hectare open community space within the complex, complete with landscaped greenery and a stage, serves as a popular meeting point and helps foster a sense of community spirit.
